Hi there,
Want to follow a more structured approach to natural sun exposure while reducing the risk of sunburn? The Sun Protocol app is designed to help you do exactly that.
The app is simple to use: follow the on-screen instructions or voice guidance to complete structured sunbathing cycles. In each cycle, you expose different parts of your body-front, back, and both sides-to sunlight for carefully calculated durations. These intervals are optimised to stimulate melanin production, the pigment responsible for tanning, while minimising the risk of overexposure.
Equally important is the recovery phase. After each cycle, you should remain in shade for a specified period. This allows your skin to recover and gradually adapt, preparing it for longer exposure in subsequent cycles.
The method behind the Sun Protocol was developed by Volodymyr Vuksta, also known as Goltis, a Ukrainian coach and survival expert. It follows the same principles Goltis uses in physical training-calculating the number of reps and time needed for your body to recover after training to maximise results efficiently and safely.
Sun exposure affects every person differently. This app is not medical advice; stop immediately if your skin feels hot, painful, irritated, or uncomfortable. For best results, always follow general sun safety guidelines:
- Avoid sun exposure between 12:00 and 15:00, when the sun is most intense. The app automatically protects your skin from sunburns and restricts cycles during peak UV periods.
- Use sunscreen, especially if you have sensitive skin.
- Apply moisturisers and other products for post-tanning care.
Keep in mind that sunburn can occur even while swimming. To safely combine swimming with tanning:
- Pause the app before entering the water.
- Limit your time in the water to the duration of your current cycle.
- Take a break in the shade after swimming, in line with your cycle's recovery phase.
- Resume and repeat the cycle.
Enjoy safe and effective sunbathing!
